The Process
Our client, Magnitone, challenged us to achieve a unique ergonomic form factor that was both easy to interact with and visually stunning.
Through our creative process, we stepped into the user’s shoes and identified opportunities for form factor and user interaction. We used a mix of sketching and foam modelling to validate ideas and propose design solutions that consider both the user and the hardware to be encased.
We have partnered with the hardware manufacturers to inform design from the early stages and ensure that the technical requirements for production were met in order to meet the extremely tight deadlines.
Alongside the device itself, we designed the refillable blade system and dock. When not in use, the device is stored and can be charged while in the dock. A blade holder contains an additional five blades and connects directly to the dock to keep the device and blades conveniently together in one place.
Packaging & Visualisation
We also designed and engineered the product packaging. We worked within strict size constraints so that the packaging was the correct size for shelves at retailers such as Boots and Superdrug. The inserts are designed to hold the device, dock, charging wire and blade holder securely in place to protect the product.
We created a series of visuals that were used on the product packaging and marketing alongside photos of the device in context with a user. These visuals also act as a guide to explain how the blade is removed and how the device should be held to replace the blade.
