TAUR 2.0 - A Revolution in Micro-Mobility!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Taur 2.0 has officially launched on Kickstarter, marking an incredible milestone in the evolution of this extraordinary e-scooter. As proud members of the Makers Department team, we had the immense privilege to contribute to the design of this damn cool product that's now better than ever!
With Taur 2.0, we've taken micro-mobility to new heights, introducing exciting features like a new motor, throttle, and more, all carefully designed to enhance your ride and elevate your overall experience.

Working closely with Taur’s engineering and marketing teams, our role was to turn Taur’s functional prototype (two wheels, some welded pipes, a motor and a bunch of battery cells) into a sophisticated and elegant design that reflects confidence and robustness throughout the product. We worked alongside Taur’s Founder and design lead, Carson Brown, who we have found incredibly inspiring to work with. Taking into account that time is a really important factor for small startups like Taur, we considered functionality and manufacturing constraints from the beginning and followed a lean design approach so the engineering team could have a smooth and effortless transition into the manufacturing stage. This was achieved through a number of fast and intense sprints, making good use of our sketching, 3D modelling and visualisation skills.

🎨 The Art of Proportions: The Journey of Sketches and Exploration 🎨
We believe that proportions play a vital role in creating visually stunning products. While the Fibonacci sequence was considered in some projects, applying this mathematical system to 3D form can be challenging and ambiguous. For the Taur e-scooter, we relied instead on a combination of our keen eye, user testing, and iterative exploration to ensure everything looked and felt just RIGHT.
The design process involved careful observation, analyzing, and creating forms and products, culminating in the final design of the remarkable Taur scooter. The sketches, a reflection of our creative process, showcase the evolution and refinement of proportions that make Taur truly stand out as a masterpiece of micro-mobility.
📱 Elegance and Functionality of the Central Column's Screen and UI 📱
At Makers Department, we always prioritize user-centric design. One of the highlights of the Taur e-scooter is its central column's screen and user interface (UI). Our goal was to craft a design that exuded elegance while providing a seamless and intuitive experience for riders. The challenge was to find the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.
From the initial concept sketches to the final implementation, we meticulously refined every aspect of the screen and UI design. The result is a captivating visual experience that conveys information effortlessly, elevating the rider's interaction with the scooter. With Taur, you'll feel truly connected to your ride, making every journey a delightful adventure.
🚧 Meaningful and Functional Design: The Evolution of Mudguards 🚧
Taur's design journey was rife with intriguing challenges, one of which involved tackling wet road conditions. The mudguards became more than just protective gear; they became meaningful and functional design elements. Integrating the forks into these large mudguards while maintaining the perfect balance between form and CMF (colour, material, and finish) was no small feat.
The result was a front fork+mudguard combination that blended seamlessly with the wheel and tire, creating an illusion of the frame floating. The rear fork gracefully followed, completing the frame's silhouette and elegantly holding the meticulously assembled rear mudguard. Taur not only enhances your mobility but also adds a touch of elegance to your rides, no matter the weather conditions.
