Barefaced 2 is an electronic skin cleansing and toning device that uses brush attachments to achieve a deep spa-like treatment for the face and body.

About

After being commissioned to design accessories and packaging for Barefaced 2, Makers Department was challenged with the task of changing the “face” of the new generation of skin cleansing tools for Magnitone London.

Following rapid growth across Europe, the UK-based beauty label needed to ensure their brand was seen as being genuinely invested in providing women with tools that work reliably and feel and look beautiful.

Working alongside the China-based manufacturing facility, we created a smooth and dynamic process that enabled us to develop the interface of the existing components whilst creating innovative and iconic forms. This allowed the brand to stand out from its competitors in what has become a rather stagnant industry in terms of design and innovation.

The Process

Using foam-modelling and rapid-prototyping techniques, we iterated our initial design concepts through user validation until we achieved the sweet spot between comfort and style. The results are a series of organic and smooth ergonomic forms that enable users to comfortably hold the cleansing devices using their palm, moving away from the traditional pistol-grip, which feels out of place for such a delicate task.

Thanks to Makers Department’s contribution, Magnitone is now an award-winning brand and one of the top three leaders of the UK beauty products market.
